Dj Tira

Mthokozisi Khathi, popularly known as DJ Tira, is a South African DJ, record producer, and businessman born on August 24, 1976. He began his journey as a DJ in 1996 while attending university, releasing his first record, Real Makoya, in 2001 in collaboration with DJ Khabzela. After signing with Kalawa Jazmee Records in 2005, he co-founded Durban’s Finest with DJ Sox, producing a successful series of compilation albums. In 2007, DJ Tira established his own record label and studio, Afrotainment, signing artists like DJ Cndo and Big Nuz, which helped solidify his role as a key producer in the South African music scene. His 2008 solo debut, Ezase Afro Vol:1, became a commercial hit. Tira continued to rise with major releases, including Ikhenani (2019), which won Best Kwaito Album at the South African Music Awards, and 21 Years of DJ Tira (2020), which was certified platinum. In 2021, he co-hosted the SABC 1 talent show 1’s and 2’s and released Rockstar Forever, which topped the iTunes South Africa charts. Known for his impact on the Kwaito and Gqom genres, DJ Tira remains a defining figure in South Africa’s music industry.
