About "Kapo"

Biography

Juan David Loaiza Sepúlveda (born December 15, 1997), known professionally as Kapo, is a Colombian singer and songwriter recognized for his fusion of reggaeton and Afrobeat. Born in Zaragoza, near Medellín, and raised in El Cabuyal, a suburb of Cali, Kapo developed an early interest in traditional Colombian music and wrote his first song, “Yo tengo un sueño,” at age 13. His stage name, “Kapo,” was inspired by a nickname used by his father. At 16, he relocated to Bogotá to pursue music more seriously and gained early exposure by participating in the popular reality show Yo Me Llamo, where he impersonated Puerto Rican rapper Cosculluela. In 2019, Kapo’s talent caught the attention of La Industria Inc.—the label behind artists like Manuel Turizo and Nicky Jam—which opened the door to collaborations and professional development. His breakthrough came in 2024 with the release of Afrobeat-infused tracks like “Ohnana” and “UWAIE,” both of which charted on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and Global 200, with “UWAIE” achieving viral success on TikTok. That same year, Kapo was selected for Amazon Music’s Artist Development Program, marking him as one of the rising stars in Latin music.
