Biography

Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, known professionally as DaBaby (formerly Baby Jesus), is an American rapper born on December 22, 1991. He began his music career in 2015 with the release of his debut mixtape Nonfiction, followed by a string of projects including the God’s Work and Baby Talk series, Billion Dollar Baby, and Back on My Baby Jesus Sht*. His raw style and consistent hustle built a regional buzz that caught the attention of Arnold Taylor, founder of South Coast Music Group, who helped DaBaby refine his sound and grow his presence in the Southern rap scene. After a breakout mixtape, Blank Blank, in 2018, which had brief distribution via Roc Nation, DaBaby signed a joint venture deal with Interscope Records and South Coast in early 2019. His debut studio album, Baby on Baby (2019), launched the hit single “Suge,” which landed in the Billboard Hot 100’s top ten. He followed it with Kirk (2019), which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and featured hits like “Intro” and “Bop.” In 2020, DaBaby released his third album, Blame It on Baby, which included the chart-topping single “Rockstar” featuring Roddy Ricch, a song that became an anthem during the George Floyd protests and earned Grammy nominations. That year, he also featured on major hits like Jack Harlow’s “Whats Poppin (Remix)” and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating”, both of which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite a series of public controversies that followed, DaBaby continued releasing music, including the 2022 collaborative mixtape Better than You with YoungBoy Never Broke Again and his fourth studio album, Baby on Baby 2, though both saw reduced commercial success. Known for his rapid-fire flow, charismatic presence, and energetic performances, DaBaby remains a prominent figure in contemporary hip-hop.
