About "Aerosmith"

Biography

Aerosmith is a legendary American rock band formed in Boston in 1970, consisting of lead vocalist Steven Tyler, guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton, and drummer Joey Kramer. Known for their blues-based hard rock sound infused with elements of pop rock, glam metal, and rhythm and blues, the band earned nicknames like “the Bad Boys from Boston” and “America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band.” Formed from a merger between Tyler’s Chain Reaction and Perry and Hamilton’s Jam Band, they solidified their lineup in 1971 and rose to fame with albums like Toys in the Attic and Rocks, delivering iconic hits such as “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion,” and “Walk This Way.” Though drug addiction and internal conflict led to a decline in the early ’80s, their 1986 collaboration with Run–D.M.C. reignited their career, followed by multi-platinum albums like Permanent Vacation, Pump, and Get a Grip, which produced hits like “Cryin’,” “Crazy,” and “Janie’s Got a Gun.” They reached their commercial peak in 1998 with their first No. 1 hit, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” and continued their success with more albums, awards, and cultural impact, including their Guitar Hero video game and a Las Vegas residency. Aerosmith is the best-selling American hard rock band of all time, with over 150 million records sold worldwide, 25 gold and 12 multi-platinum albums, and accolades including four Grammy Awards, ten MTV Video Music Awards, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. After decades of touring, their farewell tour ended in 2024 following Tyler’s vocal injury, marking the close of one of rock’s most influential and enduring legacies.
