Clipse is a hip-hop duo from Virginia Beach, Virginia, made up of brothers Terrence “Pusha T” Thornton and Gene “No Malice” Thornton. Known for their sharp lyricism and gritty narratives about street life and drug trafficking, Clipse rose to fame in the early 2000s with the help of producer Pharrell Williams and The Neptunes. Though they began rapping in the early ’90s, their first major success came after signing to Pharrell’s Star Trak label, releasing their debut album Lord Willin’ in 2002. The album was a critical and commercial success, featuring hits like “Grindin’” and “When the Last Time,” and cemented their place in hip-hop.
Their 2006 follow-up, Hell Hath No Fury, is considered a classic, praised for its dark tone and uncompromising honesty. However, label conflicts and No Malice’s spiritual transformation led the duo to pause their career after Til the Casket Drops in 2009. Pusha T went on to pursue a successful solo career with G.O.O.D. Music, while No Malice focused on faith-based projects.
After reuniting briefly for features in 2019 and 2022, Clipse officially returned with a new album in 2025 titled Let God Sort Em Out, released under Roc Nation and entirely produced by Pharrell. The comeback was supported by singles like “Ace Trumpets” and the hard-hitting diss track “So Be It,” and it marks their full-fledged return to music after more than a decade. With a national tour and new collaborations—including Kendrick Lamar, Nas, and John Legend—Clipse has reestablished itself as one of the most respected duos in hip-hop history.
