Emtee

Mthembeni Ndevu, known professionally as Emtee (stylized as eMTee), is a South African rapper and record label owner, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the South African hip-hop scene. Born in Matatiele, Eastern Cape, and raised in Rockville, Soweto, Emtee began his musical journey through talent shows and studio work from a young age. He started his career at 17 and gained national recognition in 2015 with his breakout single “Roll Up.” That same year, he signed with Ambitiouz Entertainment and released his debut album Avery, which achieved platinum status and cemented his place in the industry. He followed up with Manando (2017), a critically acclaimed tribute to a late friend, and DIY 2 (2018), before leaving Ambitiouz Entertainment to launch his own label, Emtee Records, in 2019. His third studio album, Logan (2021), debuted at number one in South Africa and was praised for its introspective themes. Continuing his independent run, Emtee released DIY 3 in October 2024, the third installment in his beloved mixtape series. Known for blending emotional storytelling with trap influences, Emtee’s career has been shaped by perseverance, authenticity, and a deep connection to his roots.
