Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan (born February 5, 1996), known professionally as Fireboy DML, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter acclaimed for his fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and soul. He rose to prominence after signing with YBNL Nation, the record label founded by Nigerian rap icon Olamide, in 2018. His breakout hit ”“Jealous”—originally featured on the YBNL Mafia Family album — catapulted him into the limelight with its unique blend of African harmonies, soul, and country influences. The track’s massive success earned him a nomination for Song of the Year and won Listener’s Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.
In 2019, Fireboy DML released his critically acclaimed debut studio album, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps (LTG), a genre-defying body of work driven by themes of love, vulnerability, and social commentary. The album, which featured standout singles like “What If I Say,” “King,” and fan-favorite “Vibration,” amassed over six million streams on Spotify within just three days of release.
He followed up with Apollo in 2020, a richly textured sophomore project praised by critics for its introspection and emotional depth. Pitchfork awarded the album an 8.3 rating, calling it “the peak of his vision so far.” Songs like “Champion” and “Tattoo” further demonstrated his lyrical honesty and sonic range.
In 2021, Fireboy cemented his global appeal with the release of “Peru,” a hit single that showcased his growth as an artist. The remix featuring Ed Sheeran, released in December 2021, achieved international acclaim — debuting at number 53 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at number 2 on the UK Official Singles Chart. The track later received platinum certification by the RIAA.
Fireboy’s influence continued to spread as he appeared on notable collaborations such as Ladipoe’s “Running,” Cheque’s “History,” and WSTRN’s “Be My Guest.” He also performed a medley of “Vibration” and “Champion” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, showcasing his talent to a global audience.
In 2022, his third studio album, Playboy, debuted at number 123 on the Billboard 200, reinforcing his status as an international Afrobeats star. He released his fourth album, Adedamola, in 2024, marking a mature and reflective chapter in his artistic journey.
