About "Fleet Foxes"

Biography

Fleet Foxes is an American indie folk band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 2006. Led by frontman and principal songwriter Robin Pecknold alongside co-founder Skyler Skjelset, the band is known for its lush vocal harmonies, intricate instrumentation, and poetic lyricism. The current lineup includes Pecknold, Skjelset, Casey Wescott, Christian Wargo, and Morgan Henderson, with the band evolving musically while maintaining its distinct folk-inspired sound. Gaining early attention through Myspace and word-of-mouth, Fleet Foxes signed with Sub Pop in 2008 and quickly rose to prominence with the release of their Sun Giant EP and their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. The debut garnered comparisons to the Beach Boys and Crosby, Stills & Nash and appeared on numerous “best of the decade” lists, even being featured in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Their 2011 follow-up, Helplessness Blues, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album. After a hiatus, they returned in 2017 with Crack-Up on Nonesuch Records and later released Shore in 2020, a project completed solely by Pecknold during the pandemic. Despite being more popular in Europe early on, Fleet Foxes built a global fanbase with sold-out tours across continents and high-profile performances, including Saturday Night Live. Over the years, they have continued to evolve their sound while earning widespread critical acclaim, resulting in two Grammy nominations and a reputation as one of the most artistically respected bands of their generation.
