About "Jessie Reyez"

Biography

Jessica Reyez, known professionally as Jessie Reyez, is a Canadian singer-songwriter born on June 12, 1991. Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Reyez rose to prominence with her raw vocals, emotionally honest songwriting, and fearless storytelling. Her breakout single “Figures,” released in 2016, marked her entry into mainstream recognition, peaking at number 58 on the Canadian Hot 100 and earning triple platinum certification in Canada and platinum status in the U.S.

Reyez made a major impact with her debut EP, Kiddo, in 2017, which tackled personal experiences and industry challenges, including the powerful short film Gatekeeper, which confronted sexism and exploitation in the music business. The EP earned a spot on the 2017 Polaris Music Prize Long List and led to four nominations at the 2018 Juno Awards, where she won Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

Her follow-up EP, Being Human in Public (2018), expanded her global presence, winning R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2019 Juno Awards and receiving a nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards. In 2019, she again claimed R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the Juno Awards for her collaboration “Feel It Too” with Tory Lanez and Tainy and was nominated for Artist of the Year.

Beyond her solo work, Reyez has proven herself a talented songwriter, contributing to tracks for global stars like Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa, Normani, and Kehlani. She notably co-wrote the international hit “One Kiss” and has collaborated multiple times with rap icon Eminem.

Her debut studio album, Before Love Came to Kill Us (2020), was a critical and commercial triumph, peaking at number 13 on the US Billboard 200 and showcasing her range in blending R&B, soul, pop, and hip-hop influences with poetic lyricism and emotional depth.

From opening for PartyNextDoor in Europe to delivering striking performances on The Tonight Show and the BET Awards, Jessie Reyez has cemented her place as one of Canada’s most compelling musical voices—bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically real.
