Kaytranada, born Louis Kevin Celestin on August 25, 1992, is a Haitian-Canadian music producer, rapper, singer, and DJ known for his genre-blending sound that fuses house, funk, hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music. Stylized as KAYTRANADA (sometimes shortened to KAYTRA), he rose to global prominence through a series of influential mixtapes, remixes, and original projects that began in 2010 under the name Kaytradamus before rebranding to Kaytranada in 2012.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and raised in Montreal, Canada, Kaytranada first gained major attention in 2013 with his viral remix of Janet Jackson’s “If” on SoundCloud. By 2014, he had signed an exclusive deal with XL Recordings, setting the stage for his critically acclaimed debut studio album, 99.9%, released in 2016. Featuring artists like Anderson .Paak, GoldLink, and AlunaGeorge, the album earned him the prestigious Polaris Music Prize and cemented his place as a groundbreaking producer.
In 2019, Kaytranada followed up with Bubba, a richly textured project that won two Grammy Awards in 2021: Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance Recording for the single “10%.” Known for his fluid collaborations, Kaytranada has worked with Madonna (opening for her Rebel Heart Tour), Craig David, and producer Rick Rubin.
He is also one half of the hip-hop duo The Celestics, alongside his brother Lou Phelps. Over his career, he has released more than 13 projects and 40 remixes while touring extensively across North America, Europe, and Australia.
In 2023, Kaytranada teamed up with rapper Aminé for the joint album Kaytraminé, featuring artists like Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, and Snoop Dogg. That same year, he performed at Coachella, further affirming his global appeal.
In June 2024, he released his third solo album, Timeless, featuring a diverse set of collaborators including Childish Gambino, PinkPantheress, Don Toliver, and Ravyn Lenae, continuing his evolution as one of the most versatile and influential producers of his generation.
