About "Key Glock"

Biography

Markeyvius LaShun Cathey (born August 3, 1997), widely known as Key Glock, is a Memphis-born rapper, songwriter, and producer who first gained recognition in 2016 with his debut mixtape Whole Lotta Errthang . Raised in South Memphis by his grandmother and aunt after his mother was incarcerated when he was just 20 months old, Glock faced a challenging childhood with an absent father, often finding solace in music . His big break came in 2017 when his cousin and mentor, Young Dolph, signed him to Paper Route Empire—Glock’s first official mixtape under the label, Glock Season, marked his entrance into the Southern hip‑hop scene .

Glock continued to build momentum through projects like Glock Bond (2018) and the collaborative album Dum and Dummer (2019) with Young Dolph, which reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 . In 2020, he released his debut studio album Yellow Tape (peaking at No. 14), followed by Yellow Tape 2 in 2021 (peaking at No. 7), both noted for their self-reliant lyricism and absence of features . His third studio effort, Glockoma 2, dropped in early 2023, continuing to solidify his reputation, and in May 2025, Glock signed with Republic Records and released his major-label debut Glockaveli .

Known for his terse, confident flow and independent spirit, Key Glock avoids conventional features and lets his music speak for itself, although he often collaborates with close allies like Young Dolph and producer Tay Keith . His work reflects his tough upbringing and boasts a distinct Memphis style, blending street narratives with intricate beats and soulful production . Beyond his musical output, Key Glock has forged a career marked by resilience, creative control, and a relentless work ethic—and today stands as a defining voice of modern Southern hip‑hop.
