About "Linkin Park"

Biography

Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996, known for pioneering a unique fusion of alternative rock, nu metal, and electronic music. The band initially found massive global success with their debut album, Hybrid Theory (2000), and has since become one of the best-selling music acts of the 21st century, with over 100 million records sold worldwide.

The band’s original lineup featured Chester Bennington (vocals), Mike Shinoda (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards), Brad Delson (lead guitar), Rob Bourdon (drums), Joe Hahn (DJ, turntables), and Dave “Phoenix” Farrell (bass). Their explosive debut, Hybrid Theory, earned Diamond certification by the RIAA and produced hit singles like “One Step Closer,” “Crawling,” and “In the End”—with the latter peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album earned the band a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance and nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rock Album.

Their follow-up album, Meteora (2003), solidified their status as mainstream rock icons. With hits like “Numb” and “Faint,” the band became known for blending heavy guitar riffs with emotional lyrics and rap-rock elements. Minutes to Midnight (2007) marked a stylistic evolution, embracing a broader rock sound and exploring more introspective themes.

Throughout the 2010s, Linkin Park continued to reinvent themselves with albums like A Thousand Suns (2010), Living Things (2012), and The Hunting Party (2014), each blending rock with electronic, experimental, and heavy sounds. Their 2017 release, One More Light, leaned into a more pop-oriented direction but was overshadowed by the tragic suicide of Chester Bennington in July 2017, which led to the band entering an indefinite hiatus.

After seven years of silence and reflection, Linkin Park announced their reformation in September 2024, introducing new members Emily Armstrong (vocals) and Colin Brittain (drums), while longtime members Shinoda, Delson, Hahn, and Farrell continued with the group. Their eighth studio album, From Zero, was released in November 2024, marking a bold new chapter for the band.

Over their career, Linkin Park has received two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, and multiple MTV accolades, including Best Rock Video for “In the End.” They have been named one of MTV2’s Greatest Bands of the Music Video Era, and in 2014, Kerrang! declared them “The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now.”

From nu metal trailblazers to genre-defying icons, Linkin Park’s legacy is one of innovation, resilience, and emotional connection, continuing to evolve while honoring the impact of their late frontman.
