Christopher Comstock (born May 19, 1992), professionally known as Marshmello, is an American DJ and record producer celebrated for his signature white marshmallow-shaped helmet and a string of chart-topping electronic dance music (EDM) hits. Marshmello rose to prominence in early 2015 by publishing remixes and original tracks on SoundCloud, beginning with his first original song, “Wavez.” His genre-blending sound—marked by groove-oriented, synth-heavy, bass-driven production—quickly gained the attention of major figures in the EDM world, including Skrillex.
In 2016, Marshmello released his debut studio album, Joytime, which included the single “Keep It Mello” featuring Omar Linx. The album achieved commercial success, peaking at number five on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Songs chart and earning gold certification for its lead single. That same year, he released the breakout track “Alone” via Canadian label Monstercat. The song entered the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 28, and was eventually certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA.
Between 2017 and 2018, Marshmello solidified his global status with a series of successful collaborations. These included “Silence” with Khalid, “Wolves” with Selena Gomez, “Friends” with Anne-Marie, and “Happier” with Bastille. The latter became his highest-charting single, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100. His second studio album, Joytime II, was released in 2018, followed by the Grammy-nominated Shockwave in 2021.
In 2020, he teamed up with the late rapper Juice WRLD on “Come & Go,” which matched the chart success of “Happier.” Known for his innovative collaborations and consistent presence on the charts, Marshmello was ranked the second highest-paid DJ by Forbes in 2019, earning $40 million.
Despite maintaining anonymity early in his career, Marshmello’s identity was confirmed by Forbes in April 2017 as Christopher Comstock. Nevertheless, he continues to embrace his helmeted persona in all public appearances and performances, keeping the focus on his music rather than his personal identity.
