Cyrus rose to fame as a teen idol starring as the lead in the hit Disney Channel series Hannah Montana (2006–2011). Originally auditioning for the role of the best friend, her comedic talent and vocal ability landed her the title role, despite early rejection for being “too small and too young.” The show became an instant sensation, and the accompanying soundtrack topped the Billboard 200 chart, selling over three million copies worldwide. As Hannah Montana, she became the first Walt Disney Company artist with simultaneous deals in television, film, music, and consumer products.

Cyrus launched her solo music career with the pop-rock albums Meet Miley Cyrus (2007) and Breakout (2008), both debuting at number one in the U.S. Her hit single “Party in the U.S.A.” (2009) from the EP The Time of Our Lives became one of the best-selling singles of all time and is certified 14× platinum in the U.S. She explored more mature themes with Can’t Be Tamed (2010), followed by a bold stylistic shift with Bangerz (2013), her fifth chart-topping album, which spawned the hits “We Can’t Stop” and the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single “Wrecking Ball.”
