About "NLE Choppa"

Biography

Bryson LaShun Potts, professionally known as NLE Choppa, is an American rapper and YouTuber born on November 1, 2002, in Memphis, Tennessee. Initially performing under the name YNR Choppa, he rose to fame in 2019 with his explosive breakout single “Shotta Flow.” The track quickly went viral, amassing millions of views within weeks and ultimately earning platinum certification from the RIAA. Its success propelled him into the spotlight and set the stage for a fast-rising career in hip-hop.

Managed by his mother, Angela Potts, since his earliest steps into music, Choppa began rapping seriously in 2018. His first release, “No Love Anthem,” was followed by the mixtape No Love the Takeover and a standout verse on the cypher-style track “No Chorus Pt. 3” with his Shotta Fam collective. The attention he garnered laid the foundation for “Shotta Flow,” which debuted at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100 and later peaked at number 36. The Cole Bennett-directed remix featuring Blueface gave it further momentum.

Following this surge, Choppa turned down multi-million dollar offers from major labels like Republic, Interscope, and Caroline, opting instead to partner with UnitedMasters, allowing him to retain ownership of his masters and publishing rights. In 2019, he launched his label No Love Entertainment (NLE) in collaboration with Warner Records, through which he released several follow-up singles such as “Shotta Flow 2,” “Capo,” “Birdboy,” and “Free YoungBoy.”

His debut EP, Cottonwood, dropped in December 2019, named after the Memphis neighborhood where he was raised. The project included a remix of “Shotta Flow” with Blueface, collaborations with artists like Meek Mill, and was accompanied by a short film.

In 2020, NLE Choppa released his debut studio album, Top Shotta, which landed in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. It featured popular singles such as “Camelot” and the Roddy Ricch-assisted “Walk Em Down,” both of which charted in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 40.

Throughout his young career, Choppa has balanced street energy with melodic flows and high-octane visuals. He continued this momentum with mixtapes like From Dark to Light (2020) and Me vs. Me (2022) before releasing his sophomore album, Cottonwood 2, in 2023. The project featured his highest-charting single to date, “Slut Me Out,” later remixed with Sexyy Red.

A staple in modern Southern rap, NLE Choppa has cultivated a loyal  fanbase through both his music and digital presence, becoming a defining voice of Gen Z hip-hop. With his combination of independence, entrepreneurial spirit, and raw Memphis energy, he continues to expand his influence in the music world and beyond.
