Rod Wave began his musical journey in 2015 with the release of Rookie of the Year and later gained traction through his Hunger Games mixtape trilogy. In 2018, he signed with Alamo Records, and in 2019, he dropped his breakout mixtape, PTSD. The project featured the viral single “Heart on Ice,” which exploded on platforms like TikTok and YouTube before climbing to number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, setting the stage for his national breakthrough.
That same year, Rod released his debut studio album, Ghetto Gospel (executive produced by Kevin Gates), which debuted in the top ten of the Billboard 200. In 2020, he returned with his second album, Pray 4 Love, featuring the hit “Rags2Riches” (with a remix featuring Lil Baby), which became his highest-charting single at the time, peaking at number 12 on the Hot 100. The album debuted at number two and further solidified his place in the mainstream.
Rod Wave’s streak of success continued with a historic run of three consecutive Billboard 200 chart-topping albums: SoulFly (2021), Beautiful Mind (2022), and Nostalgia (2023), all certified platinum by the RIAA. Songs like “Street Runner” and “Tombstone” became fan favorites and Billboard hits, while Nostalgia notably spent multiple weeks at number one.
In 2024, he released his sixth studio album, Last Lap, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, extending his record to seven consecutive top-ten albums. This feat made him the only male artist to release a top ten album every year from 2019 to 2024.
Rod Wave has sold over 65 million digital records in the U.S., placing him among the country’s highest-certified artists. His accolades include nominations for the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards. He was also recognized by Billboard Boxscore as the 21st highest-grossing touring rapper of all time, having earned $36 million from 31 shows.
Beyond music, Wave has expressed aspirations to branch into movie scriptwriting, aligning with his 2020 global co-publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. His deep lyricism, raw authenticity, and emotional vulnerability have earned him a devoted fan base and critical acclaim, making Rod Wave one of the most compelling voices of his generation.
