Kang Seul-gi (강슬기), known mononymously as Seulgi, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and television personality born on February 10, 1994, in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. She is best recognized as the main dancer and lead vocalist of the K-pop girl group Red Velvet, under SM Entertainment. Seulgi began her journey in the entertainment industry by joining SM Entertainment as a trainee in 2007, after being cast through a public audition. She was introduced to the public as part of the pre-debut team SM Rookies in 2013 and officially debuted with Red Velvet in August 2014 with the single “Happiness” .
In addition to her activities with Red Velvet, Seulgi has pursued various solo and collaborative projects. In July 2020, she debuted in Red Velvet’s first sub-unit alongside bandmate Irene, releasing the EP Monster. She also became a member of the supergroup Got the Beat, which debuted in January 2022. Seulgi made her solo debut with the EP 28 Reasons on October 4, 2022, showcasing her versatility as an artist .
Her second solo EP, Accidentally on Purpose, was released on March 10, 2025, featuring the lead single “Baby, Not Baby” . Beyond music, Seulgi has contributed to various original soundtracks, hosted web programs like Seulgi.zip, and launched her own YouTube channel, “Hi Seulgi,” in February 2024, where she shares content related to fashion, beauty, and her personal interests .Seulgi’s dedication to her craft and her multifaceted talents have solidified her status as a prominent figure in the K-pop industry.
