About "Snoh Aalegra"

Biography

Snoh Aalegra, born Shahrzad Fooladi on September 13, 1987, in Uppsala, Sweden, is a Swedish singer-songwriter of Iranian descent. Raised in Enköping and later Stockholm, she began writing music at the age of nine. Her early exposure to Iranian music and her parents’ musical backgrounds—her mother a pianist and her father a guitarist—fostered her passion for music. At 14, she signed her first record deal with Sony Music Sweden.

In 2014, she adopted the stage name Snoh Aalegra and released her debut EP, There Will Be Sunshine, featuring collaborations with artists like Common. That same year, she caught the attention of Prince, who mentored her until his passing in 2016. Her subsequent releases include the EP Don’t Explain (2016) and her debut studio album Feels (2017), which showcased her “cinematic soul” style and featured artists such as Vince Staples and Logic.

Aalegra’s second album, Ugh, Those Feels Again (2019), continued her exploration of love and vulnerability, earning critical acclaim and chart success. The single “I Want You Around” topped the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart. Her third album, Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies (2021), featured collaborations with Tyler, the Creator and The Neptunes, and received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album.

Now based in Los Angeles, Snoh Aalegra continues to blend her soulful vocals with introspective lyrics, drawing inspiration from artists like Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Whitney Houston. Her music resonates with audiences worldwide, solidifying her place in contemporary R&B.
