Biography
Tom Walker (born Thomas Alexander Walker on 17 December 1991 in Kilsyth, Scotland) is a Scottish-born, England-raised singer and songwriter known for his soulful, emotive voice and heartfelt lyrics. When he was three, his family relocated to Chelford in Cheshire, England, but he often speaks of his Glaswegian roots and retains his Scottish accent around family. Influenced by artists such as Ray Charles, Muddy Waters and Paolo Nutini, Walker developed an early passion for music and later studied songwriting at the London College of Creative Media, graduating in 2014. He began releasing music independently around 2015 and gained attention with early singles like “Sun Goes Down” and his 2017 debut EP Blessings. His breakout came in 2018 with the single “Leave a Light On,” which reached the top 10 in the UK and several other countries. In March 2019, he released his debut album What a Time to Be Alive, which cemented his status as one of Britain’s most promising new artists and earned him the 2019 Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act. Known for candidly discussing the pressures of the music industry, particularly during the pandemic, Walker strives to maintain authenticity in his songwriting. In his personal life, he married his long-term partner Annie Watson-Foulds in April 2023.
