Tyrone William Griffin Jr., known professionally as Ty Dolla $ign (stylized as Ty Dolla Sign or Ty$), is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer born on April 13, 1982, in Los Angeles, California. Ty Dolla Sign rose to prominence after co-producing and featuring on YG’s 2010 single “Toot It and Boot It,” which marked his entry into mainstream music. He signed with Atlantic Records in 2012 and Taylor Gang Entertainment in 2013, launching a solo career that quickly gained traction. His breakout singles “Paranoid” and “Or Nah” led to the success of the Beach House EP (2014), followed by his debut album Free TC (2015), which peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200. His later projects—Beach House 3 (2017), Featuring Ty Dolla Sign (2020), and collaborations such as MihTy with Jeremih, Cheers to the Best Memories with Dvsn, and Vultures 1 & 2 with Kanye West—further cemented his influence, with Vultures 1 debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. Known for his distinct sound and versatility, Ty has also become a sought-after feature artist, appearing on hits like Fifth Harmony’s “Work from Home,” SZA’s “Hit Different,” Tyler, the Creator’s “WusYaName,” Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer,” and Post Malone’s chart-topping “Psycho,” which earned diamond certification. Beyond vocals, he’s a skilled multi-instrumentalist and has contributed to hit songwriting and production for artists including Chris Brown (“Loyal”), Omarion (“Post to Be”), and Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney (“FourFiveSeconds”). A co-founder of the D.R.U.G.$. production team, Ty began his musical journey alongside partner Kory in the duo Ty & Kory before going solo. His genre-blending artistry and prolific collaborations have earned him five Grammy nominations and a lasting reputation as one of modern music’s most dynamic contributors.
