About "Uncle Waffles"

Biography

Lungelihle Zwane, professionally known as Uncle Waffles, is a Swazi DJ and record producer born on 30 March 2000 in Eswatini. Based in South Africa, she rose to prominence in the amapiano music scene and is celebrated for her energetic performances and dance skills, with Billboard naming her the “princess of amapiano.” She began DJing in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns, practicing intensely and eventually signing with KreativeKornerr. Her breakthrough came in October 2021 after a viral video of her dancing to Young Stunna’s “Adiwele” during a set at Zone 6 nightclub caught widespread attention. In March 2022, she released her debut single “Tanzania”, which reached number one in South Africa and was certified 7× platinum, leading to the release of her debut EP Red Dragon. She toured the UK and Ireland as part of the first amapiano all-star tour and gained further acclaim with performances at major events including the 2022 Global Citizen Festival and BBC Radio 1 residency. In 2023, Uncle Waffles became the first amapiano artist to perform at Coachella and earned a BET Award nomination for Best International Act. Her EPs Asylum and Solace—released as a two-part project titled An Asylum of Solace—highlighted her growing influence, with Asylum achieving gold certification in just a week. In 2024, she released the single “Wadibusa” and announced her Less Talk, More Piano Tour, spanning from Paris in June to Asia in November, continuing to solidify her global presence in music.
