Their self-titled debut album, Wet Leg, was released in April 2022 via Domino Recording Company and debuted at number one on both the UK Albums Chart and Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart. The record earned widespread critical acclaim and was shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize.
At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, Wet Leg took home Best Alternative Music Album for their debut and Best Alternative Music Performance for “Chaise Longue” and also received a nomination for Best New Artist. The band’s success continued at the 2023 Brit Awards, where they were honored with Best New Artist and Best British Group.
Teasdale and Chambers first met while studying at Platform One College of Music on the Isle of Wight. After a decade-long friendship, they officially formed Wet Leg in 2019. The origin of the band’s name has variously been explained as stemming from emoji combinations, Isle of Wight slang referring to visitors (“wet leg” from crossing the Solent), or simply a misheard joke name (“Wet Book”).
Following the viral success of “Chaise Longue,” they released the equally well-received “Wet Dream” in September 2021. The band’s quirky style and confident charm earned them attention from major media outlets and appearances on Later… with Jools Holland in both 2021 and 2022.
In 2022, Wet Leg embarked on a UK tour and later announced their role as a support act for Harry Styles on the Oceanic leg of his Love On Tour in 2023. Their influences span a broad musical spectrum, including PJ Harvey, Bombay Bicycle Club, The White Stripes, The Strokes, and Kings of Leon.
Blending wit, energy, and a distinctly British sensibility, Wet Leg has quickly become one of the most exciting and unpredictable acts in modern indie rock.
