Yel is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter hailing from Pasco, Washington. Born on November 16, 1994, she was immersed in music from a young age, with her mother being a singer and her father a saxophonist and pianist. Influenced by artists like Missy Elliott, André 3000, Jimi Hendrix, and Lupe Fiasco, Yel developed a unique sound that blends elements of hip-hop, R&B, and soul. After securing a full-ride basketball scholarship, she faced personal tragedies with the passing of both parents, which propelled her to pursue music full-time. Relocating to Los Angeles, she released her debut single “Soul Travel” and later her EP “The Life I Live” in 2020, showcasing her introspective lyrics and genre-blending style. Yel is also known for her advocacy within the LGBTQ+ community, using her platform to promote self-expression and inclusivity.
