Sour Widows connect Lullaby to Sigil’s closing song
The band’s account of Sigil explains how Maia Sinaiko’s Lullaby prompted Susanna Thomson to write Wounds of Purification. The album is due October 23.
Sour Widows’ Lullaby is now available to hear ahead of Sigil, due October 23. The band’s own album notes explain a connection worth keeping in mind when the full record arrives: playing the song for Susanna Thomson prompted her to write the album’s closing track, Wounds of Purification.
One song prompted another
According to the artist-hosted account of Sigil, Maia Sinaiko wrote Lullaby. The notes describe it as a response to the genocide in Palestine, moving toward a demand for retribution in its second half. That is the band’s framing of the song, rather than a line-by-line interpretation of its lyrics.
The same account says that hearing Lullaby inspired Thomson to write Wounds of Purification, which follows it as the album’s closer. The track listing places Lullaby tenth. That writing connection gives listeners a specific pair of songs to return to when Sigil is released, rather than treating the advance track as an isolated statement.
Where to listen
The band’s website links directly to the official stream of Lullaby. The artist’s Bandcamp album page also now offers the track for streaming while listing October 23 as the album release date.
