Parker is the sole creative force behind Tame Impala in the studio, writing, recording, performing, and producing all the music himself. For live performances, he is joined by a touring band comprising Dominic Simper, Jay Watson, Cam Avery, and Julien Barbagallo .
The project’s debut album, Innerspeaker (2010), was recorded at the Wave House studio in Yallingup, Western Australia, and received critical acclaim for its modern take on 1960s psychedelic rock. It peaked at number 4 on the ARIA Charts and was certified platinum in Australia .
Tame Impala’s second album, Lonerism (2012), continued the psychedelic exploration with increased use of synthesizers and samples. It won Best Rock Album and Album of the Year at the 2013 ARIA Awards and was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards .
The third album, Currents (2015), marked a shift towards a more synth-pop and R&B-influenced sound. It won multiple ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year, and its lead single, “Let It Happen,” earned Parker the APRA Award for Song of the Year in 2016.
The Slow Rush (2020), Tame Impala’s fourth studio album, delved into themes of time and nostalgia, blending psychedelic pop with disco and soft rock elements. It debuted atop charts in several countries and won five categories at the 2020 ARIA Music Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Group .
Beyond Tame Impala, Kevin Parker has collaborated with various artists, contributing to projects by Mark Ronson, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kanye West, Dua Lipa, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott . In 2024, he ventured into fashion through a collaboration with French label APC and performed with Dua Lipa at Glastonbury, highlighting his versatility as an artist .
