On the surface, the song uses the metaphor of “Diet Pepsi” to represent something that’s sweet, addictive, and easy to consume—yet never quite filling or fully satisfying. Through playful, stylized lyrics, Addison Rae critiques the idea of being perceived as just a pretty, polished surface while reclaiming her own power and agency. The track explores the contrast between being underestimated and using that to one’s advantage, all wrapped in nostalgic Y2K-inspired production. Ultimately, “Diet Pepsi” is about owning your image, embracing your complexity, and thriving in a world that often expects you to stay in a simple, carbonated box.
